Calm, confidence and a fresh start: Ryan’s story in Rosebud

For Ryan and his family, finding the right home hasn’t been easy. Like many navigating Specialist Disability Accommodation, their journey has included uncertainty, difficult experiences and the ongoing challenge of finding somewhere that truly felt safe and suitable.

Now living in a villa in the seaside suburb of Rosebud, Ryan has found a home that offers the quiet and stability he needs, while still keeping him connected to the things he enjoys.

A journey to the right support
Getting to this point took time. Before moving into his current home, Ryan experienced several challenging living situations. There were moments where he felt unfairly targeted, alongside other experiences that were deeply distressing for both him and his family. “It was really important for us to find somewhere Ryan felt safe and properly supported,” his family shared. “That hadn’t always been the case before.” Since then, things have started to shift. With the right support team around him and changes to his provider, Ryan’s day-to-day life has improved in noticeable ways. “He’s more settled now,” they said. “There’s a consistency to his days that just wasn’t there before.”

Living in a way that feels right

For Ryan, the biggest change has been how he feels at home.

His Rosebud villa offers a simple, accessible layout designed to support shared living and everyday routines. Set in a small coastal community, it provides both calm and connection, with shops, services and the beach all within easy reach.

“The area really suits him,” his family said. “It’s quiet, it’s calm, and he’s comfortable here.”

That sense of comfort is showing up in other ways too. Ryan is more confident, more relaxed and increasingly at ease in his daily routine.

One of the things he enjoys most is Pokémon, spending time playing Pokémon and Pokémon Go with his support workers, combining routine with something that genuinely brings him joy.

Looking ahead

With things now in a good place, Ryan and his family are starting to think about what comes next.

They’re keen to build on what’s already working, gradually introducing more activities and opportunities over time.

For his family, the change has been both gradual and significant.

“After everything, just seeing Ryan settled and doing well makes such a difference,” they shared.
