Building Independence in Yarram: How Guardian Living and MMB Property Group Are Creating Homes

Guardian Living is proud to partner with MMB Property Group to deliver quality Specialist Disability Accommodation homes across regional Victoria, including a development in Yarram designed with accessibility, independence and community connection in mind.

Co-director of MMB Property Group, Blake, has spent the past decade working in construction across Gippsland and has found a deep sense of purpose in SDA development. “With a background in construction around Gippsland for the past ten years, I have found a mixed joy in both being involved in the development of SDA housing and creating relationships with NDIS providers to bring quality, appealing and practical SDA houses to rural towns.”

Blake says partnering with Guardian Living has been a natural fit. “The team at Guardian Living are very welcoming and down to earth, with my highlights being super prompt communications and always having an enthusiastic approach.”

When it comes to the Yarram home, he says accessibility and location have been key to the design. “The location of Yarram’s build is next to none, a short stroll or drive down to Woolworths makes it very convenient for grocery shopping, paired with a local park on the way if wanting to spend time with family members out of the house, The location of these homes are important to be structured with in a supportive, friendly community and I think 49 James Street ticks all the boxes. The state-of-the-art Akuvox intercom system located throughout the house makes ease of communication between residents and carers.”

Blake is most excited about what the project brings to the town. “I’m most excited about offering this town another choice for SDA, the communities feedback was nothing but positive and very supportive about residents in the area receiving the care they deserve, having a house located within an established residential street will grant residents independence, which I think is the whole point of SDA housing.”

That focus on belonging and accessibility extends across MMB’s broader approach. “I believe community connection for us would be basically building a house in a location that works well with accessing what the town has to offer, it’s important to ask ourselves if this were a location we would reside in personally. Guardian Living Australia have great contacts with providers, so working with them going forward for location and innovation on how we can improve every build is exciting.”

Looking to the future, Blake hopes to see SDA homes continue to evolve in both design and appeal. “Being in residential construction, I have an eye for attractive facades on houses, I hope to see the future of SDA homes become more contemporary and appealing for residents and neighbouring houses. Our design features such as large rear yards and huge bedroom spaces will always be a staple to our builds.”

The Yarram project stands as another example of how collaboration, thoughtful design and shared values can create homes that truly embody Guardian Living’s “Housing Made Human” promise.
